Flo LCAThe carbon footprint of Flo coffee

Life Cycle Assessment

What is the carbon footprint of a bag of our coffee?

We calculate the greenhouse gas emissions of each coffee, from the fertiliser on the farm to the bag we seal in Yogyakarta. Every number has a source you can check for yourself.

Every number on this site is an estimate following ISO 14067 and the GHG Protocol Product Standard. No third party has verified it yet.

  • kg CO₂e per stage

Coffees calculated so far

Per 1 kg of packed roasted beans, from the farm to Flo's warehouse.

How we calculate

  1. 01

    Draw the boundary

The unit is 1 kg of packed roasted beans. The count stops at Flo's warehouse; shipping and brewing are shown separately as scenarios.

  2. 02

    Collect data

Roastery data we measure ourselves, such as LPG per batch from our Artisan logs. What we have not measured yet uses published values and is marked as secondary data.

  3. 03

    Convert to CO₂e

Each activity is multiplied by an open emission factor (IPCC, Indonesia's energy ministry, UK DESNZ) and summed with GWP100 values from the IPCC AR6 report.

  4. 04

    Test the uncertainty

A Monte Carlo simulation gives a range, and a sensitivity analysis shows which numbers matter most.

What we do not count yet

  • Carbon taken up by shade trees on the farm is reported separately and never subtracted from the product figure.
  • Impacts other than global warming (water, eutrophication, biodiversity) are not calculated yet.
  • We do not compare these figures with other brands.
